Relax During Your Procedure with Conscious Sedation

At API, we understand that dental visits can cause anxiety for some patients, and we’re here to help you feel at ease. As a compassionate provider, Dr. Khawla AlJohani offers a range of conscious sedation options, including oral sedation, Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas), and IV sedation, to ensure your comfort throughout your treatment. These safe and effective methods allow you to remain relaxed and calm while staying awake and responsive.

What is Conscious Sedation?

Conscious sedation is a technique that uses medication to help you feel relaxed and comfortable during your dental procedure, while still allowing you to remain conscious. Depending on the type of sedation you receive, you may feel deeply relaxed, drowsy, or even fall into a light sleep, but you will still be able to respond to Dr. AlJohani’s instructions.

Types of Conscious Sedation

Dr. AlJohani offers several sedation options, each designed to cater to different needs:

  • Oral Sedation: This involves taking a prescribed sedative before your appointment. It will help you relax and feel calm, though you’ll remain awake and responsive during your procedure.
  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): This mild sedative is inhaled through a mask, quickly producing feelings of relaxation and ease. It’s often used for shorter procedures and wears off rapidly once the mask is removed.
  • IV Sedation: For deeper relaxation, Dr. AlJohani offers intravenous (IV) sedation. The sedative is administered through an IV, providing a more profound level of comfort. IV sedation is ideal for longer or more complex procedures, and Dr. AlJohani will adjust the level of sedation throughout your treatment to keep you relaxed.

 Benefits of Conscious Sedation

  • Reduced Anxiety
  • Pain Management
  • Amnesia Effect
  • Quick Recovery

Is Conscious Sedation Right for You?

Conscious sedation may be a good option for you if you experience dental anxiety, have a low pain tolerance, or need multiple procedures in one visit. It’s also helpful for patients with a sensitive gag reflex, or those undergoing longer or more complex treatments. Dr. AlJohani will assess your medical history and discuss your sedation preferences to determine which option best suits your needs.
